Automatic Responses

At lunch with my aunt and my sister I noticed an incredible response. I was busy not paying attention to my sister, and I was listening to at least a couple other conversations at our table at the same time. It was a busy Valentine’s luncheon in the small community where we grew up. Out of the din, all of a sudden, I heard my sister tell me to raise my hand. I immediately obeyed, and then thought to myself that I had no idea why I was raising my hand other than the fact that I do everything my sister tells me to do without question.

My sister is three years older than I am and we are the two sisters of seven siblings. Growing up and to this day, I look up to my sister. It really isn’t a surprise that I would do whatever she said to do. It is fine with me, she’s still bossing me around, as she is pretty smart. It does make me wonder though, what are the automatic responses that I carry forward from my past? How am I triggered when I am aware or not of these cues?

I would love to hear about automatic responses in your life that you’re aware of.

  1. Oh my gosh! Had to chuckle about your post. Of course I asked you to hold up your hand, the announcer had asked a question that you needed to respond to. For the life of me, I can’t remember what the announcer had asked about but you fit the bill. It was about that time one of the senior members that was sitting at our table also asked a question, and…SQUIRREL… I got distracted into a whole different conversation. It’s a good thing you know that I wouldn’t deliberately steer you wrong (sorry about the unintentional times). Love, Sis
